Characteristics
Hana should have some rippable surf coming in from the N or NW areas at the end of this month. Ask once you pull in about where to surf - there's some really good breaks there. Sharks are there too, but the risk isn't any higher than what you'll find near Hilo or anywhere around Kauai (kind of a bad time to bring that up, I know...). Puamana will be flat. It's a S-only break, as are all breaks until you move up out of the Blackrock/Kaanapali shadow (unless it'a huge N swell, then Kaanapali Point might be good). There's a small handful of breaks up the westside between Kaanapali and Honolua but if your wife will be along for the ride I'd suggest DT FLeming beach, which has a great view of H-Bay, is right dopwn in front of the Ritz Carlton and has both sand-bottom lefts and over to the right a dead coral reef that can make for really fun, if short, rights. Plus, you've got Maui County lifeguards (think big-dog) sunup to sundown and a nice beach with bathrooms, shower, picnic area, BBQ and shade. North Shore you've got lots to choose from but with a family I'd head to Baldwin or Hookiopa - lots of people in the water, lifeguards, facilities and an overall groovy scene. Have a great trip.

Semi-crowded, super low tide and small waves when we arrived, tide and waves came up later. Nearly flat in between sets with waist-high sets. Biggest wave of the session was about head-high... I tried to catch it and it chucked me off the lip

Fun day at Middles. Plenty of longboarders out, plus a few shortboarders, but I was the only bodyboarder Head high sets, with the occasional 8 footer coming through on the outside.

Surfed the breakwall. Just paddle out beyond the classes and there are many nice waves to catch and the crowd thins out. There were some locals to deal with, just show some respect, thanks that they are sharing the waves and some aloha spirit an

Place to stay...
I'm hoping to find a nice house to rent for my family when we vacation on Maui. There will be 7-10 of us, and we will need accomodation during the end of September through the 2nd week of October. I'm hoping to be near a snorkeling/surfing beach, and a shopping area for the ladies. If you can help, please email me: cdkyle@gmail.com.Thanks!!
