Additional Surfing Infos
Watch out getting in and out on high tide, and getting up and down the "stairs". Other than that, Pleasure is one of norcal's best breaks with a perfect wave for just about every kind of surfer. And 320 days of the year, this wave is breaking, and is good. Oh yeah, Getting in and out on a low tide can be horrible. There is a 100 foot walk out to the break through thick kelp, holes in the reef, sea urchins, random rocks, reef shelfs... For example; "the walk out won't be that bad. The surface of the water is flat, and I don't see any holes." but before you know it, you'll be dropped from ankle deep water, to chest deep water. With a twisted ankle and a dinged board. And the best part is; it's totally worth it!
  Overview
Atmosphere Unless you suck, or you grab it on a super crowded weekend, It's sick!
General Most people when they think of Santa Cruz, they think of steamers lane, well, the point can get just as good or even better, and should deserve more recognition! But at the same time... -locals- "all the more for us!"

Yikes, high tide is tricky. Just getting off the steps was a challenge. Hitting it at high tide is tough (5.8+). Far better 1.5 to 3.5. Eating humple pie doesnt taste so good. Went to the Jetty to drink a beer and lick my wounds and found out

Incoming tide. 3.0 with a 3.8 at 1 pm. Besides the kelp, lots of waves. No crowds. Warm weather and little fun waves. Cowells was a freeway and this was open road surfing.

Jail time BOYS! Your days of being tyrants is all but over! Enjoy the surf and stop acting like you own the place, because you don't.We all are here only for a short season and then it's lights out, then what will happen with your tyrannical selves? Opps!

probably my favorite spot in SC
I love pleasure point, been coming here for 5+ years. I came to SC from socal (heh) so I don't have uber-local knowledge. I do know that Steamer Lane has a slightly higher quality wave (generally), but other than that Pleasure pt. is it in SC as far as I have seen.

I've surfed it in overhead (and way overhead conditions) in several winters now, and the mushy stuff in the summers, glassy stuff in the mornings, theres always something breaking here if the buoys are reading 5+

Personally I like it better than steamer lane because steamer lane gets to be point-breakey and basically means theres a single point to take off on for the entire break, filled with 30 guys all piling on top of eachother getting awfully close to that rock in the lineup. When steamer lane goes overhead though, it changes quite a bit.
Either way, I head to pleasure point first on a decent day. I will only consider steamer lane on a dawn session when I'm like one of the only people out. At pleasure point you can head to the right towards wind-n-sea or at a couple points in between, head down to sewers to the left, once-in-a-whiles, heck all the way down to 38th ave and 41st ave if you must.
I like the vibe in the water, the waves, and I just catch way more waves @ pleasure pt than I do anywhere else in SC. Other notables are 4-mile and 3-mile in the area. Those are worth a look too.
