Great in the winter!!! Empty lineup, killer drops and barrels. The rights stand up on a North West swell, and on one of those rare off shore days, you WILL have one of the best waves in So Cal to ride. Just north of El Porto - you do have to worry about sewage....
Overview
Atmosphere
During the weekend you may have local problems (funny how weekend twinkies call themselves local). If you are good, you wont have any problems. Overall good vibe.
oh really
bro...who are you?? what you been surfing the spot for like 3 years or so? its been called hammies before you were born, so dont give your 5 cents on how you think its name should change..."southside", sounds like some ghetto term you grommet!...you probably surf here in the summer

Hammerland???
Nobody calls it that anymore. That is the 80's and 90's term. Now, if your surfing the left, its northside, the right, southside. If you don't know how to surf or don't show respect then don't surf here in the winter. Many local Gundo, PDR & MB guys have been putting in time out there for a while and don't need idiots messing up a good thing when the bar shows up. Betta you stay at shitty crowded Porto!!!!!
Don't ever surf Pipe either!!!

epic . . . sometimes
I got this place really good in the winter of 05'- It was breaking outside the jetty, breaking right on the south side and left on the south side. One set came through that was at least 15', and the sandbar holds pretty easily when the swell is right. I got one of the best barrels of my life that day, completely dry, and on a 9'2" longboard.
