Re: Sth Sumatra
Spent the month of September 2009 at Nev's.

A few points to ponder for anyone thinking of traveling there.

* The left out the front of the Losmen is a fun wave, pretty soft and forgiving (bring a fish!!!) ... but the reef can be a skin peeler with heaps of sea urchins thrown in for the unwary.

The Left (Ujung Bocor) can be very frustrating when the swell angle is less than perfect ... ie a little fat and slow, sectiony, looks better than is etc etc.

* Most other waves in the area are at least one and a half hours away ... the web map is inaccurate unless you are traveling by helicopter!

* Expect anything from 15 to 25+ surfers in the water at any one time regardless of the wave quality.

* Expect more Europeans (French wave hogs) as the area is advertised on the net and mags to the cashed up euro's

* If you are not a self entertainer you WILL be bored shitless and possibly go stir crazy when there is no surf.

* If you are expecting G-land or the Ment's on a low budget then you will be sadly mistaken.

Having said all that I did enjoy myself because what I experienced met my expectations ...

Nev, Any & the crew are great people and wonderful hosts.

Punters simply should be aware of what they are looking for in a surf holiday.

Cheers from Steve

Padang earthquake, Sumatra.
Please have a look at this post, on the 'general' forum of Wannasurf :

Does anyone want to talk about the surf?
After reading 7 pages of comments bout surfing in South Sumatra, I'll right off about 6 pages as scabbling, bitching and winging about surf camps and their operators.
So...i gather the waves are good but not in the realms of G-Land or the Ments. Not world class, right? But it does sound pretty consistant, right? As long as it's better than east cost Ozzie, then I'm gunna go.
I couldn't give a toss about the who's who in the surf camp business.
