serious question - i noticed that at very low tide, some nice peeling waves break further out - has anyone ridden them and can they give any advice?

as far as what it used to be... isnt it the same closeout barrel right next to shore that will break your neck?

the cove - i heard that the jetty cut down on the amount of swell coming into the cove and that parts of the jetty broke flooding the cove with sand. does anyone know if this is true or not? i just want to know for closure.

Surfing at the cove - Me and my buddies go out there every weekend- the waves vary- on sunny days the water is nice but on a foggy day your jewelz will gone!

They f***ed it up... - For all of you newbies, the parking lot at the Cove used to be in the ocean. Think about it for awhile. I'll spare you the heartbreak and keep my photos of yester-year off the website. Pure perfection of days bygone are too precious to break out. Just take my word for it, I got mine when the sandbar was still there......

4 reasons to hate the army corps of engineers - "In 1998 the Corps announced a plan that would have placed a 3-mile long breakwater on top of a world class wave in Westport/half moon bay, Washington. Surfrider sued, arguing that the corps would destroy a recreational, environmental and economic resource. Surfrider reached a settlement agreement with the corps and the corps built the structure under the dunes. The corps agreed to maintain the beach with dredge spoil from the harbor, but not one grain of sand has been placed on that beach, and a world class wave is now but a shadow of its former self."

What it is! - This is a quote I read describing “the cove,” of yester-year, “It used to be really good. Long rides. It made westport worth it. R.I.P cove It was so.... much better.”
Sound familiar? It should! Our perception of the past is clouded by our view today. It is like the old adage, “the grass is greener on the other side,” but is in really? I don’t think so, I surfed the jetty in 1980 and the cove was still the cove of today. The grass is not greener on the other side; you should learn to find the beauty in what is, rather than wish for what isn’t!

- So what is deal with the history of the cove/Half Moon Bay. From what i heard this used to be the place to find a nice barrel, but apparently the beach has changed. Is this becuase of dreging or the jetty? I have seen it good plenty of times, but how good did it really used to be?

The Cove Westport - I just want to add that it gets really good,I lived near by for 6 years and I scored many times sick barrels
Just go with some winter swell and a midtide
