Cape Lookout State Park is a few miles north of Pacific City - you can't miss it. Take the first left down the trail from the parking lot. It is quite a long walk down to the beach. Be prepared (food & water) for the walk back up. After a good day surfing the climb is tough. 1/3 of the way down the trail you can see the break.
Cape Lookout is one of those places you never forget. It is a serious committment to make the trek to the beach. It is a bit of a gamble because you have to hike even to see the waves, and you are so far away that you really can't tell what the conditions are. It is a long pack but if you catch it on a good day you will go again and again. The atmosphere can be spooky. This is a huge, vast beach just south of a huge cape. You are out with a few friends and there isn't a soul within miles. Cell phones do not work and there are no payphones and it is a long way back to the car.
General
A sign in the parking lot say's "locals only". Don't worry about it, chances are you'll be the only one there.
the bitter end
this place died first victom of global warming and rising sea levels the whole reef is nothing but sand now. The old days now that's a diferant story
