try fisherman's wharf! - yeah that's the mysto spot in PG!! seriously...asilomar or the beaches north and south of town if the reefs/pt in PG aren't working...for visitors, better stick to the beaten path and expect to wait on the periphery at the reefs/points...be polite and don't leave valuables in your car if you can't see it from the beach...

Try Asilomar Beach - There is some "surfing" at Asilomar beach. Small waves, unpredictable, use a long board or even a faom floater. It's probably not the first experience your looking for, but if it's your only chance...

visiting - I am bringing my nephew to Pacific Grove area as a graduation gift to surf. He has never been to California. Where are some good surfs spots around and in the area?

Next to Fisherman's Wharf - You forgot to mention that the spot is right next to Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. If it's not breaking there, your only chance for waves is up in Santa Cruz.
