BEWARE! - The rodents that nest in the rock out-croppings around this break are highly diseased. Last time i surfed here i was bit on the ankle and within ten minutes i pussing from the leg and feeling dizzy. If you are planning to surf locally i would stick to Del Monte Beach

Can't wait to get this place on the right board - Surfed it for the first time last winter and was way undergunned on a 6'3" during a good sized clean swell. I can't wait to get it on the right board, there is a barrel out there for the taking.

Watch for that big rock - Right in the middle of this spot is a huge rock. Most of the time you can probably avoid it. I once thought of using some TNT & doing something about it.

the left - i always thought the same thing about that left, i seems like an easy take off then a gnarlt section, then mush, i think i might check it out, but will have a look with mask and fins first.

random as all hell - just wonderin...anyone here ever surf that big ugly left that comes around the rocks like 400yds to the left (looking out from the road) of boneyards? i don't live on the peninsula anymore but i always found myself staring at that wave and thinking it could be done with the right swell direction and some monster cajones. peace n love to all the friendly surfers in monterey and shame on whoever is posting pics all over surfline. keep it real

- First reef blows
Second reef is fickle, need to paddle all over the place to stay in the slot unless you want to get sucked into it
Third reef when it gets big, but a cake walk compared to scrambling around first and second reef
Need to know where to paddle in and out, and it's always a hoot to watch some barn door beat up their board or getting worked and getting pinballed on the inside,
Elusive fourth reef will get you close to whitey who kicks it around point pinos

inception of the name boneyards - Many don't know how this spot first got its name. In the late 1960s, many free spirited animal 'lovers' began surfing this spot. They began to notice the large congregation of seals in the area. Well, its no surprise to anyone that the place is loaded with rocks, so these free-spirited surfers began the boning the seals under the rocks, both to keep warm and to spread their ideals of peace and love. Before long, the spot became known as 'boneyards'. So, there you have it.
