Accomodation - I am planning a trip to Panama with the girlfriend and am interested in staying in or near playa venao. Where is there a good place to stay that has private rooms, A/C, and private bathrooms?

Thanks,

Alex

Venao - Was recently in Panama and went to Venao. The surf was sweet and the surf camp and Eco Lodge on the hill called "Eco Venao" was awesome and a lot of fun. $10 or so for a bunk bed and more for a double room. Also had great, very high-end accomodation. Monkeys in the trees, fires on the beach...Venao was great.

New Surf Camp - Two weeks ago I was in Playa Venao for some days. The waves were good, but sometimes - especially around noon - closeout. I stayed in a really nice hostel/surf camp up the hill called "Eco Venao". It was clean, laid back atmosphere and very friendly owners. Walk to the beach about 5 min, to the main spot about 10 min. So check it out next time.

- I don't even know why they call venao a break at all. Sure lot's of people surfing it and quite popular but CLOSED OUT to beat the band and i saw thru 12 foot of tidal variation. First looked at it at a lower tide and someone said just wait till the tide gets higher and i did and still CLOSED OUT about completely. Main reason people do occasionally manage to get part of a ride is probably the rather stiff, strong offshores (stronger than one would like for comfort) All in all these waves are worse than the junk waves of Playa Grande, Costa Rica.

rip off's in accomodation - there is some places to stay up the hill away from beach on other side of road walking distance(rather long walk)An englishman has places at an ungodly rip-off price. get this - no tv,no air con, no priv. bath and he had the nerve to ask $35. In contrast in panama city had very good deals priv. bath,tv, air con for $12.

Venao surf camps - I surfed Playa Venao back in april of 2002, at that time I stayed in one of those dirty little shacks on the beach but I did notice that someone was building some sort of lodge on a hill to the north of the main peak. I was told that it was going to be a new surf camp. Does anyone know what that construction turned into? Is it a surf camp? If so, what is the name of it and how can I find out more about it? Playa Venao is a fun wave and would love to surf it more often but I don't think I could handle to current accomodations there, if there is an alternative I would be stoked.

rashie - ok surf, kinda small and weak, like pict 6. almost got killed on the way as a truck swerved last second to avoid hitting our bus. if you've got limited time go to catalina, much bigger swell and you can watch it and get it pretty empty. left my rashie here, whoever finds it can keep it
