Slightly epic. Catch bus to Puerto escondido drop off at Rio Grande town . Taxi collectivo 25 pesos to local town on shore of laguna system someting with Z.... .if you are in a group its probably worth chartering a boat for 50 $ or more otherwise Take a lancha boat about 50 p to the other side jump off to a camioneta thats usually waiting if your not the only passenger.Best time to arrive for transport early morning 5 - 6 am in Rio grande on the way back ask the locals if and when they are going back. Otherwise there is a long, sandy road for 4x4 vehicles you ll end up in the unspectacular town on the other side of the river.
surfbreaks and cabanas are on the left hand side of the river there a long beach starting from the lighthouse and continueing for some kilometers should be some beachbreak as well.
There are no Bars Discos or prostitutes eg. not suitable for the average Gringo surfer dude respect the local people speak at least some spanish and they will warmheartedly welcome you like most mexicans. Best place to stay, Cabanas Piocho nice guy very nice family. Camping is possible as well and is free if you consume food and drinks. Cabanas about 5-6 $ per person

Additional Information
Awesome set up. Wild lagoons, lots of fruit and plenty of fish if you help the locals with boats. No formal accommodation, but available with negotiations. Camping is free in some places if you consume food and drinks. Apparently there is a great beach break in later wet-season months (Sep-Oct) around northern headland. Really requires good southern swell which is only reliable in wet season, particularly late part. Stay close to the beach (good breezes) or up above the ground to avoid the abundant amount of insects. Plenty of firewood, well water, and a handfull of supplies, feels like your tarzan.

Too Sketchy Now - OK - here's the deal. I stayed here for 3 winters and into July. The wave gets OK (nothing like Barra or the other E'erly points though) and was a good crowd escape if you didn't mind sitting in a Mosquito played hut when you weren't in the water. part from surf there is NOTHING there and its a hassle to get in or out - a mission, and then you need the locals on your side.....so fluent Spanish. The Islanders police themselves (10 locals / year are sworn in) so its rough justice - behave and keep your head down as you have 10 x more cash than any of them. 18 months ago a very bad crowd blew in from Puerto and theres a bit of a protection racket going down there now by ex-drug guys lying low. 2 x tent loads of Gringo surfers were robbed at gunpoint on the beach last April - everything taken and the guys roughed up.......Im moving on to Panama and Colombia now as its just too sketchy there and crowded everywhere else. Peace and good waves
