looks much better than it actually is - I took a trip to this area based on a friends recommendation...turns out he was only acting like it was great because he thought I'd never go all the way down there (wish I hadn't). That whole zihuat area kinda sucks for surfing. Troncones, in particular, is super weak and mushy the whole way inside the point/bay and has a dangerous dry rock right in the middle. It's only good when it's breaking way outside....you'de have to time your trip perfectly with a good swell. The pics look tempting, but don't bother. If you go, only eat at the hotel restaurant - the local vendor's food will make you horribly sick for days.

Overrated - The wave looks good but its really pretty boring. Manzanillo Inn is a nice spot with nice staff but restaurant prices are a joke. At those prices avoid avoid avoid avoid. Cafe Sol down the road is about 100 times better option food is excellent and prices are fair.

Mexico or Bali? - Hesitating right now where to go. Bali or Mexico (Troncones). Which one would you chose?

Piece of S**T - The hotel doesn't worth the USD150 per night that I paid, and I spden 4 days and it was flat as a pankake and the ranc, saladita, escollera y playa linda were pumpin. According to a local the point works once every two month........

RE NJ - 5-6' @ 12-14 secs will be overhead + a foot or two (depending on where you go) in the pit... Good solid fun.

wave size translation - I m going in two days. Surf is expected to be 5-6 ft at 12 - 14 secs. How big is that in MExico. In NJ it transulates into solid head high.

The Real Deal! - Spent 2 weeks at the point! Camped out at restaurant "La Palapa" With Jose. Great food and much cheaper than the Inn. The spot is actually called Punta Pelicanos. Caught it on an epic swell. Held up to 12 ft faces. The Ranch was good also. Great times! Troncones is a real beautiful place and very safe to be in. If in the area go eat at Jose's reastaurant "La Palapa" for the best lobster and seafood in the area. Have fun!

not worth the $$$ - We stayed right off the point in the manz bay area. the bungalow was worth the price, i guess, but the food at the restaurants weren't worth it. Spent over $25 a meal for my wife and I. I wasnt even spending $25 a day further north.

Anyway, the wave is shiz. I was very dissapointed. The wave wrapped around the point and died as soon as you make a turn or two. I guess with a bigger swell as in some of pics, it might be ok, but when it was smaller, you definitely need a funboard or longboard.

Just got back, was there for five days. Best bet is to go to Saladita and the Ranch.

Troncones point surf profile - My friends and I were there in May 2005 and got some really good waves. However, I do not recommend this for a beginner spot as there are some really gnarly rocks right inside of the line-up. You blow the take off and you can really get hurt.

A bit mushy on the shoulder but the first couple turns are a blast.

Hotel and lodging is very nice. Don't miss the back massage shack on the beach in town, feels great after all the paddling.

Tracones Muey Bueno - Early eighties. Took a panga in from Zihuatanejo with Oscar. Great waves nobody there. Next year walked in from the village because we got stuck on the road in.
Nobody around and great waves. Heard a surf camp is there now etc. No problem just makes it easier but more crowed I'm sure. Glad I got it when I did. Better waves to the north.
Have fun.
