surfing in New Caledonia
Better known for diving, New Caledonia has a great surf potential. But you need a boat: only one spot is on the mainland. The others are far (more than 5km...) all along the barrier reef. Many passes have a surf potential, but swells are not very consistent.

The locals are all super cool even at the best spots and are more likely to hoot you in to one than to kick your ass. The crowds are very thin and mellow even if you dont speak French they'll be cool.

New Caledonia: French and beautiful
This place is amazing, truly is, go there if you can.

Paul, if it werent' for the French the US of A would still be a British colony.

Cheers

hazards
New calédonia's spots are very dangerous! There is no water under your foot, and the "electrical" reef is very dangerous for your skin... I've seen some big sharks in many spots! And its a really expensive trip, because every where you want surf, you need a boat! Beautiful place but not for surfning, i think ! I prefer Australia most safer and cheap...
