- Rips / undertow
days when it is like glass on the water and days when it is completely ripping. a great beach though , there is always something to do weather its surfing, bodyboarding, or playing in the shorebreak when its not a good surf day. park your car toward the right near the parks department tower and walk to the right, thats where the break is
Atmosphere
alot of cool people who dont mind sharing the waves, you got old locals from way back and young guys ripping the waves and of course the first timers that are just out there trying to have some fun
General
keep your eye on the web cam and the reports cause when its a sick day you dont wanna miss it

I love it - How can you accurately asses a break if you are not there on a daily basis ? Have you ever heard of swell direction ? Typical Dildo Beach local, there always the expert. Funny how there are never any problems until they show up. If you don't like a break, DON'T come back. There are plenty of weak, homo-erotic waves to be had out west,do us all a favor and stay there.

locals suck - i couldnt help but notice how awful the locals here are. They like to hassel for waves but they fuck up every wave they get.

smiths v. gilgo - smiths is basically not even a surf spot anymore. the sandbars changed sometime a few years ago. i learned to surf at this spot back in high school. i've seen smiths firing with offshore winds. unfortunately that was like 5 years ago when i couldn't surf so i just went over the falls a bunch of times while my friends got sick rides. people will always surf this spot, regardless. hopefully the bars will come back and smiths will turn on again soon. that being said, yes, gilgo is a better surf spot. however there are probably just as many kooks at gilgo and it is a mellow, mushy, slow wave (across from the parking lot, at least). which is why so many old guys on longboards love it so much.
