Surfed at Frischman Beach for the first time in 1966, nice little beach break! met all the "legends of the beach at that time",

Frishman/Dorian
I Read an article today in 'Surfer Magazine' on Dorian Pascovitz (Dr) & he`s still f.....g going-for-it @ 86 years old! Truly a 'Huwie'(Aussie surf language for Neptune)!!!All you Israeli surfers should know where your surfing heritage comes from - IT`S from the main-man DORIAN -(May Mega 'G' & Huwie bless him with perfect waves, perfect rides, long life, health & happiness!)

Frishman
Frishman is the 'home' of Israeli surfing. Dorian Paskowitz (Dr.) came to Israel as a volunteer during the 1956 'Suez Crisis' & discoverd that the Med is NOT FLAT! He quickly got a surfboard air-frieghted from his home in Hawaii & surfed up & down the coast. He met Topsy (Chief Tel-Aviv/Jaffa lifeguard) & Shaul Zinner @ Frishman Beach & was in-awe @ their catching humungous waves with the lifesavers "hasakey"( a large surfboard-like sea-craft which is a combo between the Australian lifesavers 'boat' & the local Arab fishermen`s skiff). He couldn`t believe the skill & watermanship these guys displayed standing on the flat-top of the 5 metres long "hasakey" weilding a single-shaft with paddles at each end & catching 3 - 4 metres waves 750 metres out -to-sea right down to the beach. There were no wave-barriers until the mid seventies & the Frishman waves were 'ucla' (awesome) with the '3rd break' finishing very hollow on the sandbar. He taught all the lifeguards to board-surf, Moosa, Abrahamiley & others, but Topsy & Shaul were his prodigies. He immediately sent word to the USA to custom-build a few boards with 'Star of David' graffiti on them (longboards of coarse) & air-freight em out to Tel-Aviv. That`s how it all started! In the early to mid-seventies the surfies to watch for were Arieh, Engel, Shaul (of coarse), Topsy (of coarse), Topsy`s wife Noami, daughter Havana & 2 sons Nir &, the 12 year old kamikaze-grom Amour. Also amongst the 'rat-pack' were Ofer Zaramarty, Mike Mersand, Giora & the super-grom brothers Ilam & Yoni!Today Frishman is 'flaccid' in the summer & it only 'awakens' during the big winter storm swells. But the legend lives-on with us who still know how to say thanks to Dorian (the 'Messiah'), Topsy (the 'geru'), Shaul & Moosa! & of coarse Neptune'!They gave us our beloved surfing in Israel!!
