Evan's Reef Access
About 1 mile south of Hafnir, you will pass a reef, then a farm with a street sign that says, "Merkines". The very next reef you see heading south past Merkines is Evan's Reef. It is a small cove about 100 yards off the road, easily seen and checked while driving.

Additional Surfing Infos
This spot is very easy to find- driving south from Hafnir towards Grindavik, just past the sign that says "Merkines". There's a small channel on the south side of the break that makes paddling out dry hair if timed right. The shorebreak is gnarly when the swell has some size. You can park your car in a small turnout off the road- don't block the farm road. You can get additional information at www.geocities.com/surficeland.
  Overview
Atmosphere This reef only seems to work during a big southwest swell, with favorable winds (East being best). The main peak breaks over a shallow reef in front of some rocks, however, it's easy to sit on the shoulder to pick off a shorter ride. Either way, it is a short wave, not really ridable for more than two or three top turns, or a short barrel. I have checked it many times, and only found it as good as the pictures the one time.
General The Reykjanes peninsula is subject to tide changes of over 15', so this spot is definately affected by the tide. At low tide, the reef is exposed. There are some currents, shallow reef, and inside rocks. Plus, I guarantee if you show up alone, you'll be surfing alone. For that reason, this spot should really only be surfed if you have some experience, and feel comfortable paddling and duck diving. This whole area is notorious for treacherous currents, so use common sense in paddling out. There is no safe way in except for the same channel used to paddle out- the reef is surrounded by cliffs on both sides.

Canary Islands
UMMM! that right really looks like San Juan Beach in Lanzarote. The same volcanic reef and everything... but colder I suposse. I live in Akureyri and will show up soon there. I have been surfing during 24 years in Canary Islands with my sisters and rest of the family. I am so, so used to volcanic reef that when I am around in the south I just feel like at home...It is actually kind a surrealistic thing because it is just the same landscape and everything, but much colder son is like... strange. ƒg elska ’sland og Žg bà hŽr nœna, ¾tla aÝ vera lengi lengi, svona er l’fiÝ, vilja finna goÝa vinnir sem vilja hittast surfer fr‡ Kanar’ Eyjum meÝ mikiÝ reynnslu, folk sem vilja kannski bœa til sŽrferÝir til Kanar’ og koma aÝ surfa ßar. ƒg lofa aÝ Žg sànna ykkur all ’ Kanar’ og vonandi svofum og bordum heima hj‡ sistir minu, heheeh, l‡tta ykkur sj‡ eitthvaÝ, Gsm mitt er 8450513
