- I do agree Heist is mostly smaller then the other spots in Belgium and I do Agree that Belgium has not worldwide 3 star rated spots but... when Heist works , and you sure can not tell it from the view from the digue unless it is big, it is great. it has more power then most of the spots even when it is smaller. And till now the atmosphere is laid back even there more people in water on the good days the last year.

stars - rating spots is a difficult task, everybody has their likes and favorites, I like the waves in Blankenberge and Oostende too, and they most certaily deserve a couple of stars, and also true they are quite consistent, but I do know that on a lot of days, when a nasty storm hits, and everything is chop and foamy, the only places that are surfable are Heist or Zeebrugge, this because the harbourwall is just bigger than the staketsels and offers more protection from wind, also, when the sandbanks are just right and all weatherfactors come together those spots can offer you a pretty amazing long ride, to put it plain and simple, Zeebrugge and Heist have the longest waves in Belgium, maybe not so consistent, but when it's on definitly long.

heist - bay of heist is on when the winds is blowing from nw or nnw
and then if the wind turn to w or wsw its gonna be perfect white on some waves barrels.
if teh swell comes from the nw and the wind from sse
you gonna have hollow waves. but that happend maybe 1 in a year or two

heist? - all non-believers go to pier or where ever it is you go surfing. When the swell hits have a look at heist (not the same as bloody surfers paradise, pleeeaaasee).
with a big NNW storm, check out Heist. We had (not exagerating) waves up to 2,5m, clean and lines that go for about 50-100 meters. Ask anyone who surfs here and they will agree. Best spot on Belgian coast. No pics - yep,if you arrive and you see big lines coming on what we call a "Heist-day", you run to the car and take some pics. Ill be the one in the water....

- I don't doubt that it can get quite good, but it does not deserve 3 bloody stars! 1 star at most...this is Belgium...remember...the only spots that may deserve 2 stars in Belgium is Blankenbere next to the pier and Oostende klein strand...those are reasonably clean spots when some swell hits it.

Bay of heist - I confirm that bay of heist sucks. But I do not agree that belgium sucks. The waves in Bay of heist are always 0.5m smaller than the rest of our coast so do not come here!
Best spots are: Oostende, Blankenberge, Raversijde, Brendene.
Sucky spots are: numberone: Heist, n°2: De Panne->Nieuwpoort(everything in between)

PS: Bay of heist do not deserve a star at all.
