Additional Surfing Infos
Never leave valuables in the car since it may tempt people to break in. It is also dangerous to wander alone on isolated beaches around yhe area since me and many friends have been robbed at gunpoint. The spot itself has many good sections..A frame, lefts and rights..and an outer reef that is about a 15 minute paddle from shore. It can get huge! Popoyo is the most consistent spot in Nicaragua. We also have offshores 300+ days a year!
  Overview
Atmosphere The line up and atmosphere is pretty mellow and you see many foreigners and locals at the line up. You'll be fine as long as you don't snake people!

Popoyo
I surfed this place back in 1992, We stayed in las Salinas in the town bar that had a few little palapas for rent out back. For $3 a day and $3 meals it was a great trip, The mile hike to the break through the graveyard, the cow field with the bulls, which led out into the mangroves which led out to the ocean, to a short beach hike to the break really kept you in shape as if surfing pumping waves wasnt enough. I got to say that Popoyo was always at least head high on the small days and it absolutely pumped for most of my 3weeks I spent there. That wave is just like surfing one of the top breaks here in hawaii. I know it is now a little more developed with surf camps and everything, but I feel blessed to have scored it before all that, and to this day I will always remember that trip and that sic left, and fun right that me and the boys had to ourselves.
