The beach is located at the north of Patong beach, starting from about the Novotel Resort Hotel Patong to Thavorn Bay Resort. Follow the 'Thaweewong Rd.' to Kamala and Surin. 300 meters from Novotel. Go with your motorbike.
Kalim area consists of rocky but quiet beaches, and an interesting road leading up into hills with high viewpoints and a few good quality restaurants perched on the edge and top. Some housing compounds are now being built on the hillsides and the whole area is steadily moving upmarket.
Watch where the locals go in when it is high tide, mind the sharp rocks. Peddel in inmidiatly. There are two surf shops near Kalim, one called Yellow's Shop located beside Kalim School another one call Day's shop located on the north side of Patong beach (opposite grace land hotel)

Becareful about sharp rock and submerse rock specialli lowtide. Also very strong rip current when storm hit or over 8ft day.
Keep your eye on local surfers before heading into the water.

Cosmic-- You've been checking the surf in Phuket for that long and havn't found anything over 3 ft.? I think you must be so F+++++ dumb that you're coming during the dry season!.. Phuket gets overhead, just like anywhere have to know where to be and when. Not consistent enough for a surf trip but if you're there for the entire monsoon season you WILL score.

In addition to my note below. There are ample places to hire a surf board. You just have to get off your ass and look for the hire places. There are two in patong, one in kalim, 2 in surin and 3 or 4 between patong and kata. See you at the pool bar at the patong merlin knackerbags.
