  • Wannasurf on Google Earth Mar 11, 2009: Wannasurf.com has just open its surf spot database to Google Earth tool. Install Google Earth V5 and launch it. You can zoom in and see the spots. To get more information on each surf spot, click the wave icon. A popup will show the best available picture, GPS information, and a link to the full description of the surf spot. Wannasurf.com database has 8 000 surf spots but for now, only half of them have a GPS location and are shown on the Google maps. You are welcome to help us adding GPS location to all spots! Enjoy and contribute! Wannasurf team
  • 8 000 spots ! Mar 11, 2009: Wannasurf has now more than 8 000 spots in its database. Thanks for all your contributions.

  • Local Editors wanted Jul 09, 2008: As you may (or may not) know - this site is done by a couple of us, in our spare time. Which obviously means we don't have any spare time, and don't surf enough.:( You may also notice, that if you send in a new spot, update or whatever - it doesn't appear immediately, or sometimes never. We have a backlog of some 11000 surf spots submitted, but not moderated. Now many of these are doubles of existing spots, hoax spots, rubbish tec. - and need to be moderated. If you know a region(s) or country(s) well, and have some spare time to contribute - send "admin" a PM (if you want to be discrete) or reply to this message - we are going to set up a limited number of local-editor accounts.
  • Trip maps & your GPS waypoints May 16, 2008: Hi folks, Wannasurf now offers two new great features: - Surf Trip maps: If you have logged surf sessions from surf spots that have GPS coordinates; your surf trip now displays a map with all your logged spots! - My Surf Spots GPS file: You can download from the "My Surfed Spots" page the GPS waypoints file of your own spots. This includes GPX/PCX5 formats for your GPS device and KML format for Google Earth. Enjoy and contribute! Wannasurf team
  • Re:Server migration May 07, 2008: Hi, The database migration is now completed. We apologize for interruptions that may have occurred these last 3 days. The next step is now the upgrade of the main web server (which is overloaded) in three weeks... Enjoy and contribute! Wannasurf team

  • Server migration May 05, 2008: Dear all, To increase our websites response time, we will migrate this month our web server and database server to two brand new powerful servers. The database server will be migrated first this week. The websites will be unavailable for a couple of minutes. Best, Wannasurf team
  • Re:facebook map issues??? Nov 04, 2007: We had an issue with the appli - which means we had to rebuild and recreate it. If you are using the old appli - this could be the cause of the problem. Try uninstalling it and then installing a new version from WEB LINK the confiugration (that is, the link between your facebook user profile and your wannasurf.com community profile should be saved even when changing the application. let us know if this fixes it. Thx
  • facebook map issues??? Nov 03, 2007: i added this application but for the past week have got an error message that wannasurf and facebook are trying to fix some issues...is there an ETA for when i will be able to configure the map as im dying to get it on there!!!
  • Re:Map your Surfed Spots Oct 24, 2007: Hi Folks, Your 'Surfed Spot List' has now a new column named 'GPS' with an icon: - A black & white 'antenna' if the spot is already geo-localized (meaning the GPS localization for the spot is set, and this spot is plotted in your Surfed Spot Maps). - A green 'plus' icon if the spot has NOT been geo-localized yet. In this case, this spot will NOT be plotted on your 'Surfed Spot Map' (Both the world image with red pin, and the interactive Google Map). Just click the 'plus' icon to localize the spot using an interactive Google map. Once all of your 'Surfed Spot' geolocalized, your maps will display all your Surfed Spots! Remember you can embed your map into your Facebook, MySpace, Blogger, iGoogle pages... See http://www.wannasurf.com/help/gadgets/index.html for help. Best, Wannasurf Team
  • Re:Embed your surfed spot map into Facebook & MySp Oct 24, 2007: Hi, Embedded code for MySpace & Blogger has been updated: - Your map is now in Jpeg format insted of Png format (10x smaller in size). You need to copy/paste this code again! - Your map is updated daily so once added to your website, maps will be refreshed the day after you add new surfed spots Enjoy & contribute! Wannasurf Team
  • Re:Wannasurf Facebook invitation Oct 20, 2007: we are working on getting the surf-sessions ported to facebook also. In the meantime the good folks there have taken down our profile (sort of fair enough - we didn't read the T+Cs enough - profiles are not for websites - just real people ;-) so we have asked users to help publicise the facebook surf-spot appli via a facebook group "Friends of Wannasurf" http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=19306709568
  • Embed your surfed spot map into Facebook & MySpace Oct 17, 2007: Hi all, A new help page is available from http://www.wannasurf.com/help/gadgets/ to help Wanansurfers to add their Surfed Spot Map to Facebook & MySpace social networks. Enjoy and contribute Wannasurf! Best, Wannasurf team

If Google Earth is installed, this will open Google Earth and automatically zoom on the corresponding location! To get more information on each surf spot, click the wave icon. A popup will show the best available picture, GPS information, and a link to the full description of the surf spot. Wannasurf.com database has 6400 surf spots but for now, only 600 have a GPS location and are shown on the Google maps. You are welcome to help us adding GPS location to all spots! • Re:Map your Surfed Spots Aug 08, 2007: there is now a screen-capture demo on the admin blog WEB LINK
  • Map your Surfed Spots Jul 27, 2007: Wannasurf has had some major changes to its structure - most of this is quite unseen - but for those of you in the community, there is one neat function now available - you can make a map of your surfed-spots list. In fact, it will be made for you - but if you want to speed up the process - you will need to ad the googlemap location of your surfed spots to the data-base. Go to the spot page, scroll down until you see Geo-localization Help needed GPS coordinates not set ! Use the map selector to add the spot location ! and zoom, pan and click to the location. Bingo - the spot is added. Enjoy!
  • Profile Book Jun 02, 2007: Hidden away as the last tab on most profiles is a hig called "Profile Book" - here you can post messages/comments on the users profile. Its public so careful what you write... but give some stoke to those with cool profiles! ;)
  • Re:Invite your Friend(s) - Build your Network May 26, 2007: Don't for get to use the INVITE FRIENDS link to help us grow, to build your network of surf buddies - and build your karma :P
  • Re:Load problems on the site May 21, 2007: Dear wannasurfers - we have finally upgraded the server(s), which is not cheap, but should make the site much more stable and bring page-loading back to a reasonable speed. We are already looking to boost the current configuration, as this will certainly slow over time. In the meantime, enjoy the new, faster wannasurf!
  • Server Down Apr 20, 2007: The 5000th user registered for the community today, and guess what ? Unscheduled and unexpected.. our server was down for a few hours don't think it was related, but whatever - sorry for that  We are working on an upgrade, which should make page loading faster. We'll keep you posted. Happy Surfing.
  • Re:Add video content to your blogs! Mar 01, 2007: I just added a video from youtube, but initially got an error. I think that cutting and pasting the {youtube}video_id{/youtube} tag (and then adding the real video_id caused the proble, as the paste brought all the colours and styles from the html page.... by simply pasting the whole link into and out of blocknotes it removed the html formatting and the tag worked....
