Additional Information
always cut left otherwise you risk crashing on the rocks
Tide really makes this a tough place to surf, outgoing tide creates massive and strong rip that keep you constantly paddling, while incoming tides continually push you towrds the impact zone, not a good place to get caught inside on a big day, very hard go get back out if you get stuck in the impact zone. Best bet on a epic big day is to walk back down the point and hop into the channel/rip which will carry you back to the takeoff zone for another epic ride.
If you catch Demo on a classic day you can compare it to any world class point break, but those day only occur a few days a year.

Atmosphere
i find that when your getting weak swells at field 5 and field 4 demon break is usually a good bet for some fun waves and when the swells are good at field 5 and field 4 the waves are exceptional at demon break
Its a little creepy surfing the place alone on a big winter swell, great place but know your limits, if you're experienced in bigger swells a dont even attempt to surf it on a big swell because you will take a beating, ive taken 2-3 wave holddowns on big days.
Also at really low tide and a decent swell the wave gets really hollow but breaks in super swallow water, great time to get barrels but also an easy way to get hurt or eat a facefull of sand.

demo - Demo is nice break.... probably one of the best lefts on the island. Nothing beats it , not just the wave but the location...... the causway is the only means of getting there by car and once your at field 2 you ethier have to 4x4 (and hope you dont get a ticket) or walk a mile west to the spot. because of all of this it cuts down the crowd SOOOOO much. the maxx people ive ever seen there was 17 guys(which is a little crowded for demo cuz of the small takeoff zone) and thats only because it was the weekend and all of the weekend warriors got up early to surf it . in the dead of winter on A weekday you can surf it all by yourself sometimes because only people on the bordering towns of the the causway are really gonna be able to make it down there which is really only people who live in west islip( If your lucky like me) or mabye bablyon or bayshore. Think about it... if this spot was in long beach or MTK there would be every surfer on that side of the island there..... the only time it ever gets remotely crowded is the summer because of the acceibility, boating, the more hours in a day, and some of the field2 lifeguards who will hit it up on there break. Demo is no secret everyone knows about it and you can go ahead and tell anyone who does not no about it. IT does not change anything... the crowds wont get worse and most of you wont make the walk, wont risk getting a ticket, or just flat out cant make it down here. the vibes are usually good here and there really isnt that much localism because when people who usually dont come here come here its only a couple of people and no one really gives a shit.. shure people will get pissed if you come there with 20 guys from long beach but other than that its a great break with a mellow vibe and the best part is there wont be any city or LB kooks there =D. Happy surfing
