Go into CANNON BEACH from the north or the south on 101. (this is a no brainer) head right down to the main beach access and you'll look down the beach and see a huge rock out in the water. (GO TOWARDS IT) when you get to it, surf on the left of it (when looking out in to the water). If confused about the mushy surf ask the local ranger that patrols the beach, or the infrequent surfer that you might see, and they are more than likely willing to give you the info you need to surf this spot.

Body Boarding - We went last Summer and did some bodyboarding at Cannon Beach. It was great fun and we didn't see any sharks, although we don't go out to deep water. The Lifeguards were really helpful and pointed out the best places to try each day. Indian Beach at Ecola State Park is also really good and pretty sheltered. I managed a couple of hours at a time in a "shortie" wetsuit and I'm no spring chicken!
