 Additional Information

One Jetty east of the Main break. Access is the same as 92nd St. Getting out can be tricky- again, use the Jetty to your advantage.

Atmosphere

This is the relief valve for the Main break at The Jetty at 92nd St. Can be a bit finicky at times with closeouts or waves that back off. Generally not as crowded since everyone wants to be at the MAIN break. Can be better for sponging at higher tides as the bottom contour gives more wooomph on mediocre waves. On the right swell direction, it can be a real sand dredger at low tide. RIdes are generally not as long as the Main break.

General

I've been here when it is going nuts, twice as good as the Main Jetty and have just 3-4 guys out.
When the conditions are marginal at the main break there will be 30 guys fighting over dribblers and The Box will provide a bit more power. Lately has become the realm of the NYCSponger crew- A group of friendly locals(to me anyway) who love just to have a good time and enjoy themselves while defending the BB'ing side.
Generally a good vibe if you show some respect and are going deep.

Well, that took a long time... - Criminy- I submitted this spot almost 2 years ago! The description hasn't changed much, but there is a rule that all the locals have tried to follow:No logs in The Box!Basically when The Box is on it is not a Log wave. It sucks up and goes square with alarming regularity. It will pitch a log and the occasional shortboarder with no regard for ability. Spongers are the main regulars when conditions are right.
