north ave beach?! what?! - this place would be hideous for surfing. the post below mine is totally right on, there are much better spots in the chicago area. not to mention you get a nice fat ticket if the cops catch you in there on your board, as it is illegal to surf in chicago city limits.

Pylons - It ain't nice to recommend this spot. First, there's a line of pylons that is right in the line of shorebreak. You have to be able to surf around these or you're dead.
There are FAR better spots around Chicago than this one.
But the beach is great for volleyball and girl watching.
