After Getting of the bridge to South Padre Island, turn right and just keep going. After about a mile you will pass a checkpoint and you gotta pay 4 bucks to get into the park. Then keep driving past the cove and to the beach.

The surf isn't as bad as you think. Its fast and fun. Paddle out by the jetties if you want the easiest paddle out.
The water is a different color, the locals call it "South Padre green" The sand is nice and soft. The beach was voted the third place beach in America according to the travel channel.
Its a great place to go for good, fun surf, no bothersome marine life, no rocks, and a friendly local vibe.
