Three different waves- north part (Old Man's) is a long mushy wave, in center is channels usually smaller but can get faster on inside, and to the south is Pumphouse, which is a classic beach break. Mostly long boarders and fish, with occasional short boards. Pretty consistent, almost always something to surf, breaks regardless of tide. Very, very crowded weekdays and weekends.
Atmosphere
Friendly, mostly nonaggressive crowd.
General
Good place to surf a longboard or to go to surf regardless of tide or surf. Picks up all swells, dependable.

... - this is the mushiest, most crowded, piece of dung wave I've ever surfed.

Place is good for longboarding. - This place rocks if you wanna go out and ride a longboard like the rest of the people there. Yes, there are a few of us locals that use no leashes cause we don't use them unless it's over 6 foot or so inside of the cove, but don't worry normally we are good about holding onto our boards. You will see everyone out there on any given day. The kid that is ditching school to practice his newest obsession with noseriding, the expat just hanging out and talkin story in the parking lot, Skip Frye cruisin by on a wave with his impecable style, maybe even me doin some cutbacks and havin the time of my life. This place is very historical for what people like Skip Frye, Mike Hynson, Larry Gordon, Mike Doyle, and Floyd Smith have done for surfing since having these waves to ride. Have fun here, don't be bitchy, and spread aloha.

for old guys and girls really - befor longboarding came back it was empty, so i learned to surf there on my 5'6" in 1980. ther'd be like 5 cars in the lot on a weekend then. now u cant even find a space on a weekday. but its definately not a gnarly wave with scary locals...
