solo in central america - can anyone provide tips on theft prevention in central america? i'll be travelling by myself. are budget hostels/motels/etc. safe for leaving board bags, etc. while in the water? Are there secure places you'd recommend to leave boards/belongings? Any input or advice on this subject would be MUCH appreciated. thanks

Can you hire a board in Guatemala - I'm aspiring to head to Guatemala to learn some Spanish -- and practice some surfing... Is it possible to rent a board at one of the good spots or is it necessary to buy one before I leave (Estados Unidos)?Good prices on boards there?
no title - yea don,t stay in Monterrico four 4 months..shit that would be a nightmare..it,s the rainy season so the moscitoes will eat you alive plus there is absolutley nothing to do there...also the waves are shite there...the wave just ledges onto the shore and closes out...The only place worth checking is Sipacate...Rancho Carillo is a bit pricey but it,s a cool place....
? Monterrico a cool spot for some german to learn how to surf ? - I'm going to work in Guatemala as a volunteer in an orphanage for 13 months from January on. Beforehands I'd like to attend some spanish course there. Looking for a good school I came about one in Monterrico, and as I've always wanted to try surfing that place seemed pretty attractive to me. maybe someone can give me an advice: Is Monterrico a nice place to stay ( for a 4 months spanish-course) ? And is it a good place for some German rookie to try n learn how to surf ? Or is it a better Idea to go to a school on lago atitlan and later go to some better surfing spot during my holidays...?(that school is unfortunately the only good one on the pacific coast)
