Awesome Wave I surfed here during September of 2005, and it was one of the best surf sessions I ever had. The waves were 8-12 feet, and super, super long. It did not close out once.

So so... I surf Punta Rocas for 6 years. You need a lot to padle to get there if the swell is big. Be carefull with the beach break because in the last time there is a lot of sand and you can get a really dangerous barrel. Once I broke two rips because I wanted to show (obviously for the girls) how good I am...3 METERS BARREL!!! SICK!!! So, if the swell is medium is very fun but crowd, if the swell is big can get closed, but if not, you really need balls!!! If the spot is small, then go to the barrels and enjoy that!!!

PUNTA ROCAS I had some surf sessions in Punta Rocas. When it was smaller, with 3-4 feet, good places to hit the wave, it´s powerfull and there is a section close to the rocks with nice long walls. But I went there on a 6-8 feet swell, and had taken some huge sets of 10 waves with lots of power! The foam is very strong and it will carry you almost like Sunset for a long time underwater. There´s also the shorebreak, where you have to hit the right time or take some big shoot outs like Waimea (kidding, but it´s dangerous!). I had a wipe out on a huge wave at Punta Rocas that I will never forget, I flew from top to bottom as the wave got hollow at the take off! Also surfed a nice almost-8-feet wave, very big and powerful, for something like 150 meters...

one of the better waves in peru-4 stars I surfed in Peru for 6 weeks and this was one of my favourites: firstly its a right (it goes left also here but its not as good), and its consistent, and its powerful. There were two boards broken on the one 8 foot wave one day, both just duck diving. One of the better 3 star spots, especially if you like big drops with crunching power and workable walls (who doesnt). You can always tell if a wave is powerful if the whitewash bounces higher than the wave. I also got the inside section wall up with big off the tops on some days. Great wave, 8 out of ten at 6 to 8 feet for sure.

Punta Rocas Under Threat??!! Project Stopping Advice?? Looking to the point from sitting out at the break, towards the left, one sees the locale of Club El Bosque. Notwithstanding that Punta Rocas is a national sport heritage site in Peru, or that it is without doubt one of the most consistent breaks (there are always waves to catch here!) and draws surfing tourists from all around the world, the word is that Club El Bosque plans to build a breakwater and marina. It must and will destroy Punta Rocas!!! Will the locals be able to band together to STOP this unnecessary, unneeded project? Herradura, in Lima and a world-class point left with a heavy, heavy tubular wave, is under the same threat. Law suits don't work in many countries; someone simply gets paid off. Press attention might. Who has advice on how to stop these kinds of projects??

pico alto surf camp rocks I just spent 2 weeks at Pico Alto International Surf Camp and was very impressed by the way Oscar Moronte runs the camp, and how good the waves were. The camp is all inclusive with surf transfers to the local surf spots, lots of good food, and comfortable hotel room with running hot water. The food was the best part of the camp, it was good and when ever i asked for mroe they gae it to me. No one ever left the table hungry, we always had enough food. The surf is great, make sure to bring a 4/3 wetsuit for the winter there, a 3/2 wetsuit wont do the job, trust me i wore a 3/2 and was cold a lot. Be ready for long paddles and foggy conditions, mbut the best waves of your life, this place is great, the camp is only 35 bucks a night USD, so thats around 200 a week with eveything, a great deal, they even have free internet and a new TV with lots of surf videos. Punta Rocas was my favorite break, is was an easy drop in with fast lines, wear booties if it gets big, just incase you get washed out on the rocks. Shout outs to Pulpo ( this guy would die for guest at the camp, he is a very standup guy), Jesus ( a good picture taker of me surfing), Oscar Jr. ( always handled any situation that might arise), and Oscar Sr. for running a great camp, i will definately come back. only eat what they give you a the camp, you will get sick anywhere else!!!!!!the locals here are really nice too, always got smiles in the water from the local surfers.
