Pretty hard for a beginner
This wave in a big day is not for beginners as you can see in picture number two.

La Serena
Stayed here for a bunch of days in July '06. Big surf, cold as shit. Very challenging for beginners.. overhead the days I was out. long paddle out. Rented from the lone shop on the beach. We were the only ones in the water the entire day.

nice in December
Visited La Serena in late December 2004. The weather was cool and cloudy. The beach was completely empty, not a soul in the water. A lone surf rental shop is on the beach, it was around $25 for a board and suit. The waves were decent to challenging for a beginner, 4' to 6' and powerful from the south. Lots of great hotels and restaurants along the strip. Apparently it's a zoo during high season, but I'd recommend it for anyone visiting Chile.

This is one very good spot, waves all year, best moment in winter and summer, december, but the school is not good, the techer unknows

AVENIDAD DEL MAR
THIS BEACH IS GOOD TO LEARN, THERE IS ONE SURF SCHOOL.
BUT IS BERY GOOD TO FOR PROFESINAL SURF.
IS A BIG BEACH MORE NORTH YOU GO BIGGERS WAVES.
