It is under rated!!!
I had the chance to surf over there a couple times: first in 1983 and last in 2007. Both times I had the concrete feeling it is the most perfect left in Santa Catarina. Even better than Guarda do Embau, Joaquina e Vila (Imbituba). Got there very low profile and stayed out for almost two hours, surfing along good surfing level locals. Then, as usual, the kookiest local one came up and started yieling to me to go in.

As I was satisfied, I did it, with a smile in the face.

Had a good time with a ladyboy crack-whore in Itajai.....only 40 Reals all night!!
Didnt even bother to check out the waves, but in all my time in Brasil never had a problem with locals ANYWHERE!!!

Easy way to surf Atalaia
Go there start to smork MACONHA and offer it to them.
You'll become CAMORADA with no time than you take your surfboard out of your car.

average surf for beginers
looks very average from the photos. Can't see the point in heavy localism at such a poor looking surf spot. I'm sure there's much better waves and much better vibe to be had elsewhere...leave it to them and their poor surfing.

I think once you get to know the (local boys ) you be ok.
Don't go in at the first time. Let your face be familiar first.

Atalaia localism / just stay sweet
I used to go to the spot for 3 month when I realy got the Localism point. I saw a teenage boy badly beaten by a "Fazenda block" (Itajai) adult surfer. I think the best time to surf the spot is before 9 am or before the sun goes down. On week-end, forget it...If you see the crowd don't even try, as you will get troubles. Some locals don't even let you look them surfing!!!
So far this wave is the most beautifull I've seen in Brasil. Easy to enter the water, easy to surf, long as hell..men there's not any day I don't remember it lol

Man, I´ve been living in Santa Catarina ever since, and I advice who want´s to surf Atalaia- if you wanna surf this spot you´ve gotta bring a gun with you into the water. The locals don´t allow any stranger surf the spot, and they´re very dangerous. They really can take you out of the water beating you up, they use to smoke crack on the rocks watching the waves before surfing.

Alert: Atalaia localism
I was surfing in Atalaia in 1995 and I get trouble
with a localism there. But the waves are amazing,
perfect lefts with 4-6 feet with 3 barrel sections.
I dont have words to describe this waves, but the
native local boys is dangerous, if you dont know this
guys - dont try surfing Atalaia. Good luck if you like to try this.

Atalaia it's far one of the most perfect waves here in Brazil... And more than this perfect point break it is very famous by the strong localism who used to be stronger years ago ... Nowadays the things haven't changed very much, but surfin' at Atalaia always will be a chalenge by its heavy enviroment and mainly by its perfect and legendary lefts ... Its necessary for its own protection ... Boa sorte ...
