It's a fun wave which in the right swell and off-shore winds becames very similar with Playa Negra(Costa Rica) and sometimes Pipeline backdoor.
You can find good waves bigger than 08 foot, but it is very hard to get in.
Nobody knows exactly why these spot is called Vala de Mauri. Some say that Mauri was the best surfer in this spot in the 70s, others say he was the first guy who rides these waves.
Doesn´t matter, come and enjoy the good rights.

Good vibes - I surfed this spot last week. The waves were great, the water warm and clear. Looking forward for a new south swell.

Vala do Mauri - This is a great spot for several reasons: lots of parking space, not a great crowd surfing nor people bathing and it isn't far from the main part of the city.I enjoy surfing there and have never seen any sign of localism. The only negative is that, unlike other spots in Rio, there aren´t girls in any great number. As for the name of the spot, it´s a mistery for me, though people say that there is a Mauri living nearby.
