General The Cove doesn't break like a true point break anymore, but the right swell and wind direction can give you a hollow, long left.

It's so obvious why the locals here carefully guard any quality shots of their spot actually going off.
With any simple study of the meteorolgical & oceanographical aspects of this here gym-dandy spot 1 can see why the truly epic photos of this spot are not yet published on this site. That would only bring throngs of surfers from out-of-the-woodworks 2 invade the occasional great, semi-secret spot they've got @ 'Cove' lefts! It just doesn't break w/ enough consistency to brag about what can potentially occur here, at times it really does go off here which does't require rocket-science to figure out, u locals are most assuredly not as dumb as the local 'southern accent' might characterize them!!

Surfed this place many times epic
This is Serge D for those who know me and read this. I have surfed the cove at its best 20+ times. Back in the day if you paddled out you wouldn't have gotten the best of the set waves unless all the tiptop ripping locals were already on one. You could still pull some waves just as good but not as frequent sitting further off the point. Hell back in the day I would even sit off the point some because I liked how it lined up better. Anyways. You wouldn't have gotten waves because the locals at the time were wave hungry kids who were on the peak every second. If I saw someone I didn't know getting aggro I would easily cut them off or push them too deep until they backed off and gained some respect. No cars were waxed, no fights ever went down. Just typical point break positioning of kids who were down to surf. The thing is when the cove breaks there are soooo many waves to be had but unfortunately it doesn't break anymore and when it does break it isn't insane length it used to be.

coves good
I surf it all the time... the second cove (coming from southport) breaks like a point break.. and southports on the intercoastal... so don't go into southport looking for waves. if you want to get beat up you can surf the sandstone slab towards kure beach too... one of the only reefs on the east coast.
