This is BS - This is not even a spot. South Beach never breaks unless there's a hurricane. Best bet is to drive an hour or two and surf reef road. Better not be a kook though, reef road is for experienced surfers only.

rip off photos - how can you claim copyright to photos 1-2 here, when they have been on my site http://storm.rsmas.miami.edu/~cook/Surf for 2 years, donated by the photographer Kevin Collinsworth? At least give him credit you swine

Whatever - I got here a year ago after a chain of unexpected events made me relocate from San Francisco to Miami. I grew up surfing Ocean Beach. If you've ever surfed The Beach and you've been out on big days you know what a 12 foot set looks like. It will make you evaluate your role out there. Ocean Beach has often been compared to Puerto Escondido and Pipe with a much more insane and horrific paddle. Anyway, I hooked up with some "surfers" out here and they told me, "Dude let's go, SoBe (Hip local name for South Beach) is double overhead. I got there and it was probably shoulder high with kooks dropping in on you and lettin go of their boards in front of your face. On this site some dude says "you better be bilingual and don't mess with me in the lineup." All I saw (now, I'm talking from experience here) was a bunch of overexcited kooks riding 6'8s on shitty days more suitable for a fish or a longboard. So I say, whatever, bro. You want some waves on the mainland, real waves, head the opposite way. That's west, if you didn't get that. California to be more specific. The best day in South Beach was the equivalent of an average fall afternoon in San Francisco. But then again in the winter of 2000 I saw a total of 22 days of solid double overhead empty peaks with no more than 3-5 surfers per peak. And I mean SURFERS, guys who won't let go of their boards if they're facing a set on the head. So to Nestor Menendez I say this: South Beach gets crowded no matter how big it is because it never gets big. The waves here don't matter. I'll take a set on the head and pull into a closeout any day any swell. Can't say the same about Ocean Beach. Don't believe me Nestor? Come to Middle Beach, Pacheco or Rivera Streets to be more specific and IF you get through the shorebreak, be prepared to get your ass handed to you in a brown paper bag. As far as SoBe goes, I won't mess with you in the lineup, you can have it, I'm going home.

SOUTHBEACH - YES THERE ARE A MILLION KOOKS , YES SINCE 95' IT HAS BEEN EVEN MORE FICKLE , BUT OH WHEN IT'S GOOD , OH IT'S GOOD!!HAIRIEST DROP IN FLA. EASY , FOLLOWED BY A POWERFUL BARREL TOPPED OFF BY A GORGEOUS "IN YOUR DREAMS" WOMAN W/ SUN GLISTENING OFF HER BEAUTIFUL BARE BREASTS!! WILL OTHER SPOTS SUCH AS REEF ROAD BE FIRING? YEP. BUT WHEN THE SWELL DIRECTION IS RIGHT & THE SIZE IS 6FT PLUS I CAN'T & HAVEN'T SEEN A BETTER MORE EXCITING TUBE IN FLA. P.S. ALL OF FLORIDA IS FICKLE SOME SPOTS MORE THAN OTHERS , ALL OF FLA IS CROWDED. IF YOU WANT CHANGE MOVE ELSEWHERE OTHERWISE WHEN IT'S ON BETTER GET IT!

It's not all bad - Hey man its not tres palmas. But it's good to know that it will always be their for that dawn patrol before heading in to work. But all you fags that only hit this spot like twice have never seen the power that south beach has when the bahamas are getting slammed (by a Huricane) sweet 6-8' Barrles. (Proud to say Cracked my tooth on one of those swells)

South Beach Info - hazards: ignorant dumb ass locals w/ diarrhea of the mouthcorrection: sharks are almost non-existant @ South Bch.correction: waves (when breaking) are powerful, A frames that pitch and suck sand. South Beach will snap boards on a regular basis (when breaking).note: lots and lots and lots of topless chics!!!!

Hurricane Swells Only! - Fricken Ay! This spot only breaks on Hurricane swells. This is not a consistent spot and is basically void unless the tropics are acting up. Overrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay up north

South Beach is not a Surf Spot! - This place sucks. It breaks a few times a year. If it is even breaking the rest of the coast is usually pumping. What a joke!!! You have a better chance of farting in your bath tub and getting barreled than scoring waves at South Beach.
