Fripp Island Access |
| |
Fripp is a private, gated community. You need to either make friends with a surfer from Hunting Island, or paddle the 1/4 mile accross the channel between Hunting and Fripp. Not that hard, but the best waves are on the south end of the island; i.e. a LONG walk down the beach. |

Additional Surfing Infos |
| | Access is aweful. I made friends with a surfer on Hunting ISland, and that's how I got onto the Island. If you DO paddle the channel, do it at low tide, so you can be far down the river mouth, that way the gaurds can't see you. A boat would be sweet. Watch out for the incoming tide; it happens quick. If you're hesitant in leaving the water, you'll be forced to shimmy-up the rock breakwall. Not fun.

Overview |
| |
Atmosphere |
After living in SC for 4 years, I am 100% convinced that Fripp is THE best surf spot in SC. FAR better than Folley, Cat, etc., and NO crowds. Those who are out there are usually you're friends(they GOT you onto the island). Here's the gem; Fripp is the most south facing beach in SC. So a powerful winter North swell, which has Folley in a state of chaos, will be clean and lined-up to the horizon at Fripp. |

General |
It is deffinately worth the effort to get on the Island. Even if you end-up going commando style. |
