Additional Surfing Infos

  Overview
Atmosphere Bull Island juts further into the ocean than any other South Carolina beach. The spot picks up almost any swell. The northern and southern ends of the island can have very classic point like quality. The middle island is a nice hollow beach break. The bottom is a mix of sand, mud and old oyster bed. There are stumps in the water and the water is always very muddy. Sea life abounds: jellyfish, stingrays and some toothy fish.
General If you really want to get away from the crowd, this is the spot in S.C.. Be careful. Most of the good looking breaks are on old oyter beds. The shells are packed into a hard black mud banks, which are amazingly shallow and sharp. The island is a wildlife refuge, so there is no camping allowed on the island. This is one of the last prestine areas in SC and supports a beautiful maritime forest. So, if you go, plan to take all of your garbage with you when you leave.

Bull Island
Okay guys heres my knowledge on Bull Island, I jump into the flats boat and cruise up the barrier islands only when we have some solid ground swell or a large hurricane swell. If you're good at reading depth charts and surface maps you can find some crazy places that have prolly never been surfed. I have gone to Bull and its been flat 5 out 6 times, but the few times I have caught it, its been a unique experience. The waves are very fickle its gotta be the right tide so if youre not familar with the area, I really would stick to somewhere with roads to it. There are a few islands up there like capers that also hold a fun wave but only with the right direction of swell and wind... Please be respectful of our untapped nature, dont camp on the island, its illegal and if you do, take all your trash with you and if you see any that is not yours be kind and pick it up. If you feel like an adventure Bull can make it for you, theres nothing like surfing with your buds with on one around for miles and miles.
