Atmosphere |
Bull Island juts further into the ocean than any other South Carolina beach. The spot picks up almost any swell. The northern and southern ends of the island can have very classic point like quality. The middle island is a nice hollow beach break. The bottom is a mix of sand, mud and old oyster bed. There are stumps in the water and the water is always very muddy. Sea life abounds: jellyfish, stingrays and some toothy fish. |

General |
If you really want to get away from the crowd, this is the spot in S.C.. Be careful. Most of the good looking breaks are on old oyter beds. The shells are packed into a hard black mud banks, which are amazingly shallow and sharp. The island is a wildlife refuge, so there is no camping allowed on the island. This is one of the last prestine areas in SC and supports a beautiful maritime forest. So, if you go, plan to take all of your garbage with you when you leave. |
