Drive South of Kittyhawk or north of Hatteras. You will go over a big bridge. After the bridge you will be in Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. Stop at one of the shoulders on the road. Walk over the dune and you are there. Have fun!! + Hey This place is great for begginers. It's right at the the end of Pea Island wildlife resort. There are places to park on the side of the road. Once you leave Nags Head and hit Cape Hatteras National Seashore, keep going until you go over a huge bridge. The keep going until you hit the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. From here you have about 20 minutes until you get to a sand dune with a lot of sand and no grass right before you hit the beach houses. The waves are nice and glassy and you don't want to miss it. It's about 35 minutes away from Avon. -Steve Montgomery
Park on the other side of the dune, walk across and have fun surfing. + It's real good on a right swell. It breaks left and right. It can be a fun wave but when it goes off it can be double over head. You don't need any paticular board. It's just a fun place to surf. All the guys in the lineup are cool and they're happy to share there waves.
Overview
Atmosphere
Nice, no locals to give you crap. Awesome waves. Well worth the trip. + The temperature is perfect and there's plenty of places to eat around and some good surf shop in case you need wax or if you break your board.
General
Awesome + I thought this spot was a great place. I came from Florence S.C. and it was seven hours but it was worth the drive.

S curves are always fun!
Before you get into Rhodanthe....the road gets really close to the dunes. Park, walk over an established walkway (that means you, idiots who have to walk over the freshly planted sea oats!). Rarely gets too crowded, except on some weekends.
