One on the Outer Banks, take the bypass past all the crap in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head to Whalebone Junction.
Go South from Whalebone Junction (you are now officially in "South Nags Head"). Continue approximately 10 miles on the beach road past mile post 25 and watch for the National Seashore Coquina Beach" sign.
Parking is in the public lot.
There are shopwers and bathrooms (cool). |

Additional Surfing Infos |
| | Park in the public lot. Very little theft since the lot is patrolled by National Seashore personnel.
Typical beachbreak with numerous sandbars running down the beach. With the right wind and swell direction, rides of over 100 yards are common.

Overview |
| |
Atmosphere |
Coquina Beach was named for the small, coquina shell that is found at this beach. There used to be an old shipwreck here, but it washed away a few years ago.
This is a laid back, mellow spot to surf during the late summer and early fall. Waves are in the 2-6' range and suitable for beginners to advanced surfers.
The beach is super clean and the water pretty clear for the East Coast. Most days it is blown out by the prevailing SW winds, but watch the weather vane and head here when the fronts pass and the wind turns more northwesterly after a protracted period of SW winds.
I gre up in South Nags Head (mile post 21.5) and can tell you the waves get very good here if you are patient.
Many sessions can be enjoyed all alone, even in the summer, at the nice quiet spot. Great for the family as well with a nice wide beach. |

General |
It is my home spot so I cannot be objective. I think it is one of the nicest places to surf on the Outer Banks of NC. |
