Additional Surfing Infos
I have seen this spot hold double over head to 15' waves and break like Todos Santos on a small day. its a quick wave that requires good judgement of when and when not to pull into the barrel. But if its big and no off shore winds. Dont think that the power isnt there. Seen alot of boards trashed here. Best I have ever seen it was during Hugo. 10 mph offshores and about 12 to 15'. Barrels so long it was unimaginable. But also the worst wipeouts I have ever had.
  Overview
Atmosphere Plenty of room to surf there. no pier or jetty so you can spread out quite a bit. Spot hold 100 or so surfers with no crowding. Locals are very friendly, just as long as you are.

Florida is ok for waves
Is low tide the best time to surf?

get real
I'm a New Smyrna local and have surfed Bethune regularly over the last 30 years. A great spot but the report given is full of exaggeration. Holds 15 ft.? Barrels so long it was unimaginable? I think not. Here's some truth for the report - It does line up well as opposed to a lot other florida beachbreaks, lots of long workable walls and some hollow sections. It can definitely hold well overhead on hurricane swells. Good mellow vibe in the water, be cool and show some respect you'll have no problems.
