To Question
No, the Jetty and DP are 2 different spots. You assume correctly.

The Jetty is located at the end of Ocean Shores, and marks the north end of Grays Harbor.

DP, as you already guessed, is inside the harbor...about 1/2 mile inside I guess...and breaks on a long spit of sand.

Jetty---better in Summer.
DP---look for big S or SW swells with N to NW winds, which blow offshore there.

You'll probably get skunked on either, unless you live here.

QUESTION
Is the N. Jetty the same place as Damon Point? It seems to me that N. Jetty is up further (ie N. side of the jetty on the ocean side) while Damon point is "in" the bay on the S side of the Jetty. Anyone ever surf Damon Point?

I heard there's been some work done to the north jetty. I wonder how that's going to effect the surf

"what makes the north jetty more dangerous than the south jetty."
The north jetty is also sharkier than the south jetty. There's more fresh water per liter of salt water at the north jetty due to the rivers north of the jetty and the prevailing northwest current that pushes that water towards the jetty. Also, the northwest current flows into the jetty, rather than being blocked by the jetty so there is more current and the current flows directly into the jetty.

"what makes the north jetty more dangerous than the south jetty."

The south jetty has a flat sloping beach. The North jetty isn't as flat so there is more of a rip. And the North jetty doesn't extend as far out as the south jetty so there is more current. The swell is amplified at the north jetty compared to south jetty which is good on really small summer days but bad if you're a beginner. There are more beginners in westport than o.s. and there has been only one death in westport and that was a heart attack multiple deaths have occured in o.s.

Dangerous, how?
what makes the north jetty more dangerous than the south jetty. I understand some details about it, but from my experience i assume that the south jetty can be just as or if not more dangerous. The fact that ocean shores is more popular has brought more inexperienced people into the water, thus contributing to more deaths and injuries, but other than this what makes this water region more dangerous?

No problem. The North Jetty will never be as popular as the South Jetty. it's too inconsistent and dangerous.
