The Dump Access
this is a tricky spot to access..Follow hwy 112 to Neah Bay go through the village at the fork on the westside of town turn right then left up the hill take the 3rd right after the pavement turns to gravel find a safe solid place to park the ground is soft here causing many sad dig outs in the rain. If you look around and see majestic grand forest you're in the wrong place! You want nasty garbage all over, shot up cars and bears hiding in the bushes then you are in the right spot. On the northwest side of the gabage area there is a trail that leads down to the break. It's best if you pack your stuff down and change into your wetsuit on the beach or you'll be sportin' a new hole in your 5/4. with the nearest surf shop 2+ hrs away

Additional Surfing Infos
Look out for bears in the actual dump. Careful to park your car where it won't get shot! Try to get there when it has been dry for awhile or the hike is insane!
  Overview
Atmosphere Such an ugly start to such a verdant beauty of a wave the water is so clear you'd think it was stained glass. The wave is a Washington wonder in the top 3 best on the coast. Powerful left that allows for numerous airs and other progressive moves. But, really don't bother trying to find it alone, it can be dangerous. Remember the airlift to PA costs $1500.00.
General Besides all the other distractions from surfing this spot let me add one more.. in my all my years surfing the Washington coast west and north this is the only place I ever saw a shark not too big probably 6 to 8 feet long but it spooked the hell out of me!My only explaination for this was that is was an El Nino year so the warmer(68 degrees!) water must of brought some vistors.

Sickness on top of sickness with puke sandwiched between. Yea br! That was one sick sandwich! Me and the seals dropping in with the Makaha spirit riders in the tube. Respect.

the truth about sharks, bears, etc. oh my
In November 1993 before "Al Gore invented the internet", I went out to Neah Bay with a friend looking for surf spots. We ended up at Mukkaw bay - I wish we would have turned right on 112 instead of left.

I read all 11 pages of comments about this spot. Here's my 2 worthless cents:

First, there has only been 1 recorded shark attack in Washington in the last 1000 years. You are 30 times more likely to get hit by lightning than to be attacked by a shark. You have a better chance of dying in a car wreck on 101 on the way to "The Dump". Here is proof: http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/statistics/GAttack/mapusa.htm. I'm still going to strap my hunting knife to my waist just to make myself feel better. 8" knife straight through the sharks head while my leg is in his mouth is going to be a worse day for that shark.

Ok, now on to Bears and cougars. I had a bear problem on my property this summer because I was keeping my garbage on top of my roof like a hick. I saw the bear on my deck, I opened the door and it bolted as fast as cat (jumped probably 15+ feet off my deck). A fish and wild life officer came and put a trap up. The bear didn't show up after that. Any way I talked to him a lot about bears and cougars. Bears think of us as another bear; as long as we are respectful to them and their space they won't bother us. Cougars are curious, you don't want to set off their hunting senses so don't run quickly or ride a mountain bike. Walk with a friend and make a lot of noise.

Now onto people who say they go out there and the waves suck. Check MSW before you go - boy that was easy.

Now onto garbage, locals, long hike, etc. If I ever go to "The dump" (which won't be any time soon), I will boat in, and anchor a good ways out. Then my Samoan body guard will drive the kodiak drug runner raft to get to the surf break like they do in Indo on one of those surf charter trips and skip all of that mess. AND - if any crew or the so called "The Keepers" have a problem with me they will have a problem with my Kodiak raft driver who will be packin. LOL! Suckers! Now I can finally surf this spot in peace!

this is fun spot
one of my favorite spots. locals are really friendly and the water is really warm for WA. Being from Orange County, it was a blessing to find a spot every bit as fun as Trestles, but without all the people.
