just enjoy the ride
born and raised in o.h., first time on a board was at ebey.. not a great intro to surfing but great for perspective. live in san diego last 18 years, went home last thanksgiving. spent over 8 hours going from b-ham to la push, coooold, rainy, windy. 7/6, hood, gloves, still froze. good surf, worth the effort. point is, it's the ingredients that make dessert so sweet. enjoy the trip, cuz it might be flat when you get there. thanks jerry and chris

About that epic day.
Hey man great story. I am starting to date a girl out there and that gives hope as for something to do when she be acting all ill. Maybe I will stash a board at her place and wait for the right time. Was this a local wind system that created such conditions, or did the swell really wrap around all that shit?

caught it once or twice
More gas and miles on my car because of this spot than anything..I used to live in bellingham and came here like once a week trying and trying to score it...Ive spent hours and hours on the cumputer trying to figure it out....I only actually got to surf about 25% of the time..Even if the offshore buoys were 25 foot it could be flat..But there is this 1 day..I will never forget..7-9 ft faces!!super glass 6 guys 7 hours..set after set.will absouluty no lulls in the sets. It was like a coke addict who what his drug again..I went home and slept for 17 hours.Couldnt move my arms for 3 days.Dont know if it will ever do it again..But this one guy told me that day was the best in 10 years..(never forget)and the freaky thing was the buoy was only 9ft that day..broke even later on the outgoing tide.Been there 50 times since trying to repeat...best I could come up with since it a 8 foot face day decent breaking cause the winds were on shore at 45 knots..Only guy out air was 36 water 45...

THis spot is very rocky
hey im a 14 year old kid who lives like 15 min away from thi spot...its true that this spot is fickle..you pretty much have to hunt down the waves but when they break in the summer there about waste high but in the winter they gett about 6ft and once in a while double overhead............if you dont believe me it gets double overhead drive up to the rangers station and they have a snapshot of it double overhead.....all around its not a bad spot when it breaks...email me for questions

This is a novelty spot at best...
You're most likely going to find this spot extremely disappointing... especially coming from San Diego... where the surf is better than anything up here! This particular spot is about as fickle as they come and is a novelty only. Unless you are living within 5 minutes of this place and can get out there while the wind is blowing like hell, you're going to get skunked. Probably surfable 2 times each winter for a couple hours each time... with waist high chop at best. As far as novelty spots go, Point Roberts is much more reliable. However, for serious surfing you'll need to head to the straights, Canada, Westport, or Oregon. Since you mentioned taking a ferry, try Vancouver Island instead of Whidbey Island.

What month's are best to surf Whidby Island??
I am moving to Pt. Townsend from San Diego. I am planning on taking the ferry with my board to Whidby I. to Fort Ebey. What are the best months or what conditions are most favorable to the possiblity of waves breaking there?
Is there a phone number at Ft. Ebey to call and ask about the surf?
Thanks,
Paul Kell (paulk@gsolconnect.com)

i hear ya
So true... I've been to Ft. Ebey and Joseph Whidbey State Park. I posted Ft. Ebey on here about the same time that you did... they used most of your post though... so I think you beat me to it. It's not a great spot... but hey, a spot's a spot.

If you only knew what you were missing
I found a great little waist high wave here in the middle of July! Which goes to show you never know how surfing will surprise you. Question...Just how many waves are going unridden?
