Go into CANNON BEACH from the north or the south on 101. (this is a no brainer) head right down to the main beach access and you'll look down the beach and see a huge rock out in the water. (GO TOWARDS IT) when you get to it, surf on the left of it (when looking out in to the water). If confused about the mushy surf ask the local ranger that patrols the beach, or the infrequent surfer that you might see, and they are more than likely willing to give you the info you need to surf this spot.
Ask the rangers that patrol the beach as well as the surfers.. everyone is very cool.
Overview
Atmosphere
This is totally a place to take the family because when the tide goes out it is has killer tide pols for the kids. GREAT STUFF! And the surf usually sucks but if you get out there early enough it should be decent. remember HAVE FUN!
General
its ok I dont frequent it too much... SHORTIES or SEASIDE POINT are much better (if the wind is right).
goonies

Don't waste your time here
This place is REALLY SHARKY and a shitty wave to boot. Yep, all the shark stories here are true...they seem to hang out around Haystack Rock for some reason. Just do yourself a favor and head up to Seaside and surf the point there or, for beginners, the cove. Anyone who knows anything about surfing in the Northwest will tell you that Seaside has BY FAR the best waves in the region....see you in the water.

The north side of the rock is called shark pit and is aptly named because that is where kenny doudt was bit. I don't know about the boneyards place but i have seen a wave breaking where that guy described the spot and needles is on the other side of the 2 needle like rocks sticking out of the water
