Additional Surfing Infos
The spot can be a little tricky to access. The locals are gonna hate me for this one but here are some better directions. Head North on rt 1. towards Lewes, DE. You will see a Cape Henlopen Park exit...take it. You will drive down this road which will go by the town of Lewis, and the Cape May/Lewis Ferry.. Keep driving and you will see the Cape Henlopen Park Signs. Pay the fee for the park and take the first left. At the stop sign take a right. Follow this road for a while until you get to a old lighthouse, and a spot called herrings point. You'll see the cars.. its a walk down some sand dunes to the beach.
  Overview
Atmosphere Its a very very long right, the only pointbreak delaware offers up. Longboarders love it. Kinda a slow wave, and its amazing how long you will go. Good Beginners waves for easy take-offs. Most guys sit right in front of the rock jetty, and ride forever. It can be a bit competitive with the locals, so just know the rules.
General The spot is one of the few surfing beaches in the summer times. It also breaks very long. Watch out for the tree stumps. Very mellow break. enjoy.

Who bulldozed the stumps?
Just wondering if anyone knows who made the decision a few years ago to 'doze the stumps north of the north jetty. What a dumb call. Seems to have ruined the break so kids could swim there. I realize there's a new jetty there now; haven't been back in a few years. Does it ever break anymore? Has anyone ever tried riding the outer shoal that breaks when there's a big swell? I think it used to be an island called "Heads and Chickens" or somthing like that. I always wanted to tow w/a jetski out there. Also, why do people keep mentioning in this forum to be careful of bull sharks in the area? No ones ever been attacked there. There's tons of sharks in the area, especially in summer. Most are brown sharks (sand bar sharks), spinners, and blacktips. Lot's of teeth, but they don't bother anyone.

Don't Bother...
The old jetty was recently replaced with a brand spanking new one. It hasn't broke since then and there have been several solid swells from the proper direction. If you didn't get to surf it before '97, you didn't catch shit here and you never will. Ahh, glory days. It really was one of the best waves when it was on. If you do try to ride the closeouts here, watch out for the large bull sharks that lurk in the murky brown water. They are known to frequent the area as they breed close by in the Delaware Bay...and when they finish fornicating, they are hungry. Drink the kool aid donkies, do it!!!

Cape is only decent point break in DE
HAHH YEAAAA Cape goes off when its good in de and theres several point breaks there. on the right jetty usually opens up a nice long right.. when it gets a little bigger it starts workin on the left jetty for a right and when it gets even bigger and clean it works from the end of the left jetty all the way in for a pretty fun ride.. sometimes a little long left opens up next to the left jetty too.. If you walk down left at the point and go to i think the second green sign out there if its big usually it hollows out pretty mean.. MAHALO!
