In Rhode Island theres this road like a highway but smaller i think its called rt 1. Take that north from connecticut or south from anywere more north that rhode island. Get off at the exit for matunuck beach road. Theres a real long road and u just take it to the shore at the end of the road theres a little parking lot. Just dont drop in on any locals cause they're all really cool surfers and if you just wait your turn you will get respect.
There are 3 point breaks here starting at the fishing parking lot and going West to in front of the bar. Waves can start to get hollow when a hurricane swell is comming in 10ft+ Watch the rocks at lower tides. Nice rip when it's bigger.

Sometimes it's just too crowded on the weekends even though it will have the best waves in the area

Its a good spot at higher mid tide if you have an offshore breeze.

fucking insane - drop-in central. just moved back to the area from santa cruz and have had a harder time getting my waves here than i did in santa cruz, which is world class and ten times as crowded

Matunuck is Drop-In City - Watch out for local-made boards in the water , they own Matunuck and will drop in everytime...what are you on?

good stuff! - I grew up in the area and have been coming down here for years.
The localism isnt as descripted in previous comments. If you know how to surf or bodboard you will be fine. Dont paddle your ass of then decide not to take a wave in front of people. Its just poor etiquette. This is also not a place to learn with the rocks and reef.
The plus side is that there are 3... yes 3 breaks to choose from here. 1 out of 3 is always cowded because its right in front of the beach/parking lot for the most part.
Oh yeah, the waves are the best in the area when a swell is coming. lefts and rights everywhere with minimal closeouts and it gets hollow.
