Additional Surfing Infos
This is a great spot at low to medium tide.. fun local scene. its usually small and beach breaky, but it can get epic to well over 10 feet in the winter. there is no surfing during buisness hours during the summer, but during the off-season its fair game. park in the pay lot or along bass rocks road during the off season.. cross the footbridge onto the beach and rip
  Overview
Atmosphere I dont know much about the Gloucester surf scene anymore.. i moved out a few years ago and have only been back for day trips. its probably still the same.. 20 or 30 people who are always in the lineup when its happening, always quick to help (especially if you are a chick) there was a surf shop here for a couple seasons run by the local surf king.. last i heard Jimbo had moved to NYC.
General This is a special place. its one of only a few good breaks in the area and the scenery is incredible. amazing sunsets, cold water, the occasional seal, and capable of generating some epic surf when the conditions are right

Big Closeout
Ughh. Too many closeouts.Wes and I were the first ones out in the fog. A LOT of fog.Brought my longboard out, waves were shortboard. Then brought my shortboard, waves became longboard. Then vice versa again.

Out for only 45 minutes. That's what happens when I wait on my wife to get dressed and put on makeup. She didn't even surf! But at least she came with me and my pup.Good waves. i rode until past sunset. 3 footers that were pretty fast, consid

Awesome longboarding
Great day. Looked deceiving at first. Looked really choppy, the wave periods were probably 4 seconds. But when I went in, they were fairly powerful for their size. When low-tide went to high-tide, the breaks were long and good. When high went to low, t

You've got to catch during 'Indian summer' conditions in the late fall season for best outcome.
We're all aware of this closely-guarded little factoid, one that's peculiar to Good harbour area spots ONLY near the calendar dates of the winter solstice, since that's when to take advantage of Goodwater-temps caused by the 'Bermuda rise' tropical upwellings circulating clockwise from south of the 'N.American basin' sea-floor. That's how we're able to 'trunk-it' wearing only surf-shorts & a rash-gaurd during such extreme 'wintery' conditions existing here; making it look like we're insane -- when actually it's all these dumb stand-ups in their wetsuits that are certifiably nuts -- NOT to be taking advantage of this blessing.

i've lived in gloucester for the last 6 years and each year good harbor gets more and more crowded. A good alternative to Hampton in the winter, but clogged with beginners and people who just plain don't know what the hell their doing in the summer. Doesn't hold a crowd well. The best break is the right that peels off the point, and a left further down the beach, so not much to choose from. Hit long beach on a good swell.
