The strange sharks that are native in this habitat are known as Greenland sharks, or Sleepy sharks.
These rare, unusual species of shark are sometimes called 'Sleepers' because of their sluggish behaviours. They live in the cold, northern waters, & under the ice shelf in winter. They eat carrion, & large numbers may gather to gorge on a whale carcass. One is said to have been found w/a reindeer in its stomach.

shark sighting during the day
I've been surfing Wellfleet area since the 80's. I did see a shark in the middle of the day at cahoon hollow. It was august 1990. I paddled in, told the life guard, he called everyone in and everyone watched it go north.
20 minutes later back to normal.
