This spot is pretty tough to find because of its infrequency to break. When it breaks, don't expect locals to tell you where it is since it is kind of special when it happens. The swell comes out of deepwater and ledges up on a shelf that spills over into a pretty classic wave. It has to be a pretty big clean groundswell which is usually the time when other waves are also working, but closing out. Probably holds some of the largest waves in NJ when it is actually breaking.
LBI is a barrier island which usually has a bit more exposure to swell than some other surf towns in the state of NJ. This spot in particular has its moments. It would be very prudent to avoid confrontation with local police and residents on this private beach stretch...the locals know their way around this. Some heavies who'd rather surf warm water on winter sojourns to big wave winter spots like Hawaii will even wax up semi-guns to stroke into some of these late fall & winter gems. Be cool to them, some guys have had some heavy confrontations in the past...particularly with some guy named Stevo and Flex.
It can be as good as anywhere in the state when its breaking...unfortunately that isn't all that much....probably just adds to its lure...probably just better that way.

Shoobies and Bennies Stay Out - Below sea level? Whale's Tale? Oysters? This is all a cyber wave of myth and lies from the uninformed shoobies and bennies. Leave the legendary LBI to its local boys.

lbi sucks - lbi has some of the worst surf in jersey, one long island that faces one direction, crappy dumpy sandbar with only a few spots that take a swell and get crowded, if it happens to get good there are other spots elsewhere in NJ that will be MUCH BETTER.
