Drive into Caumsett Park on Lloyd Neck (in Lloyd Harbor Village in Huntington) without being noticed by the gate attendant. Look for the horse path heading north and run like hell for cover. Park rangers will kick you out if they catch you before you reach the beach.
When you reach the end of the dirt road head west down the beach to the sand point (it's very obvious)
Overview
Atmosphere
While this spot rarely breaks well it can come together. I surf all year in Hampton Bays but it's still exciting to go surf a new place like this that nobody expects would break. We surfed it in August one year after a 30mph Northerly blow. The wind dropped off completely and we were there in trunks surfing nearly perfect head high lines with me and two friends out. We had a couple hours of absolute bliss before it crapped out.
General
This spot requires patience and local knowledge to hit it when it's on. Even though I much prefer my local ocean waves, it's great to surf a wave so fickle with so little fetch and get it good.
Why Bother?
I lived right down the road from Caumsett my whole life and guess what? Yeah, it breaks. It broke twice in 15 years. I would check it after any strong wind with north in it. Head high? Right. Go to the ocean for your wave thrills.

sounding off
Hey im from lloyd harbor right next door to caumsett. I've surfed caumsett a few times, it gets good when the wind is right and the tide drops. I'm always real stoked to surf there.
