March any good? I will be in the area for two weeks in March and I am considering staying that PARC. Any decent swell on this end of the island in March? I have reservations else where but would divide my time if the waves are decent.

This Place Rocks! Three Times a Year Maybe I say that in jest. It can be fun whenever the West is on. But usually small since it is somewhat protected on one side by the cemetary jetty and the other side (toward Makaha) by the manmade boat harbor. When the azimuth is right on shore though. This place can be awesome. I'd say it happens about 3 times per year with 10 foot plus faces. I find it best when the far outside is breaking - you have to paddle out to the harbor entrance (watch out for boats - my buddy lost a toe to a prop by a drunk in a boat) and catch rights. Face value is every bit 10 to 12 feet with a few bigger sets. That is "Hawaiian" 1-2 feet by the way. Inside is OK but always crowded on big days. The big outside wave reforms again on the inside twice before hitting shore.

no title i learned to surf here on a mini-longboard/longboard...i had a lot of fun. the waves were just right for learning (talking like 1-2 feet). it was rocky on the bottom, cut my foot but nothing too bad. it's quite a drive out there, great place to learn though.

"rest camp" is one of the best places to learn how to surf.. Atleast thats where i learned how to longboard, my very first board was given to me from a lifeguard that still works there(Earl Bungo). although people use to tease me for longboarding there, because to them "rest camp" was for kids, and beginers. But what alot of people did'nt know was when november threw december, it is known that the west side kind of similized to the north shore around that time. so when Makaha would be huge, everybody kind of works there way to "rest camp". even the "big talkers". I'm a local girl born and raised in Waianae, Oahu "rest camp" will always be my favorite surf spot.

no title this is a great spot to learn how to bodyboard. it lets you learn all you need to know about wesside beaches, like respect for da locals and the environment. rest camp hardly ever gets epic like dis guy said. it does get super fun out there tho. check it out when its huge everywhere else.

Um... The Rest Camp (or what the submitter calls "Rec Center") brings in some serious waves when Makaha is maxing out over twenty feet. This usally happens when a really mutated west-northwest swell pounds the North Shore. Caught it at 3-4 feet one time and Makaha was about 15-20 feet. The wave is extremely vertically challenged. South swells hit this spot but not on the same scale as Northwest swells. Very fickle when a South hits. Barrels with the right west-northwest. Long rights and short, fast lefts when on. Very rare to catch it epic.
