Laniakea Rocks!!!!
Surfed Lani's in late March at 5-7(Hawaiian) and the rights were long and fast. Caught one for almost a hundred yard ride(Double D will verify!)Not bad for a "haole" from Miami. Great vibes and absolutely no hassling(unlike "Town" crew)

Lani's 2 stars??????
What the???? People shouldnt be rating breaks that they dont surf, anybody who surfs the country knows when theres a clean 6-10ft North swell (Hawaiian scale) that this place goes OFF!!!! Thats when you start to see all the North Shore heavies start showing up. Breaking from the deep North Bowl or even Holtons and grinding ALL THE WAY THROUGH!!! How can 6-10 ft Grinding North Swell 200-300 yard long heaving rights get only 2 stars? As for the guy that said its best at 5-7ft FACES?!! That flat as far as I'm concerned, barely even breaking. In the 12 years of surfing this place I never seen packs of sharks or even a 15ft tiger shark out there, I see a lot of turtles, which can be just as bad(imagine dropping in over the ledge and busting your fins out on a piece of pop-up turtle reef. So I dont know whats up with that guy. Lani's on a big clean North is one of the best breaks in the North Shore when its doing it's thing. When Lani's is over 6ft(hawaiian) its a whole different game, & yes it gets super unbearably crowded.

i surfed lanis on all north swells last winter..it's an awsome right hander when it's 6-8'.
the barrell sections are sweet too. have fun and respect the locals.

lani's good
had some really great sessions at lanis when other breaks around where not looking so hot - if it connects, it is a pretty long wave... 5'-7'' faces is ideal -lots of turtles, occasional sharks - We got the visit of a 15' tiger shark in the line up... pretty scary but it just swam away looking for a turtle - we surfed on the edge afterwards, but the waves made us forget all about it afterwards - respect the ocean, and you will get respect in return -
surf's up

2 stars???
Who gave Lani's 2 stars? Are you kidding me? At least 4, possibly 5. Gimme a break.

a friendly seasonal reminder
please, put away your giant tanker or hang out in town/makaha, that time of year has come and gone.
for god's sake put in a little effort, longboards are for the more distinguished genlteman, a little salt and pepper, a few years on the clock (50+) or a little girl, or perhaps the tourist from the mainland or the island of nippon.
no offense to any of those who ride those summer time boards, but it's winter time, it's a new dynamic, it's a time when you must pop up a little faster and think and make decisions much faster.
don't ruin it with your inability to take off on the peak, not the swell, anyways...........
go to town, go to chuns, go to santa cruz, go somewhere, or come here, with a thruster.
no offense, longboards have a time and place, it's just not the time or the place.
happy wave skipping!

surf in oahu????
are you serious, there's no surf on Oahu, you must be smoking loads of ice.
Go to Maui, or the Big Island, that's where all the surf is.
Also, Oceanic Institute has discovered that approximately 450 white sharks have been discovered to have been cruising the Northern Shores of Oahu, besides no surf...........it's DEADLY!!!!
I implore you to look out for your self, and the interest of all your loved ones!!!!!!!!!!
Don't risk it, it's just a big vat of military dumping waste, and white shark breeding / feeding grounds!!!
Think of you children and poor lonely wives / husbands!!!!

Long time fan
Small Lani's (under 6') consists of 3 seperate bowls. Once in a while depending on swell direction (more north) the wave will wrap makeable from peak to channel. On a BIG north swell Lani's goes big league. I think it was Shaun Thomson that said eating it at Laniakea was the absolute worse place to eat it on the NS, hands down. Could be! Tore up my right knee trying to make it across a 8' wall. The place warped into a big unforgiving bowl in front of me (too west). You go on a big day you better be up for it, hold-downs can be brutal. Otherwise its fun. Local loyal crowd. The townies for the most part go to Chun's. Lani's is a lifestyle. Be nice, there are good guys out there for the most part...

Lani's
I surfed this spot during the freak summer NW swell in late August during my first trip to Oahu. Real fun..short lefts and long wally rights. Crowds were friendly and manageable, much Aloha, hoots and hollerin'.(unlike the south side, who would have thought?) Paddle out past the big green turtles sunning on the beach...kicked the reef pretty hard though, get's shallow inside.
If you find a freestyle watch on the reef it's mine, got blown right off on a duck dive.
Supa fun braddah!!..haha.
Later.

North Shore is 100% better, I get at least 5perfect offshore barrels a day no problem - and I surf with a max of 5guys during work and school time. Get a eveining job and live the dream. I work at Haleiwa Joes(4-10) serving and make minimum of $200 a night(tourist tip big).In the summer I head over to Austrailia and work at AUSGRILIA Seafood house, where I make bigger bank and my job is one block away from Superbank which is now 3pointbreaks, If you wannasurf year round you can - get in the restaurant biz
