Be polite to the local boys or else you don't get waves at all. Don't leave valuables in your car. The rules are "Westside Rules". It is their wave so again be polite.
Overview
Atmosphere
Don't go stroke for stroke with the boys. If they paddle for wave, you back off immediately. If you are on the wave and they paddle for it, you kick out. The wave is their back yard. Follow those rules and they will let you surf their break.
Westside surfer
There's nothing I can't stand more than another haole giving the rest of us a bad rap on the island by acting like a cocky, entitled jerk. There are a lot of us haole guys just scratchin by on this island and we have more in common with the average local guy out on the westside than we ever will with the rich haole's running things now or the ones who perpetrated injustices on the Hawaiian people generations ago. There is a whole lot of bickering about race and localism on this site and I think a lot of it comes down to people harboring misdirected prejudices and making false assumptions on both sides. I did not grow up on this island and I recognize that whenever I paddle out to a primarily “local’s spot.” However, I did work my ass off to make it here as a contributing member to the community and I’ve sacrificed a lot to remain here. I hope the oahu-grown surfers will try to see us haoles as individuals who are not all deserving unprovoked negativity or intimidation.

green laterns is way after maile point, not before. it's actually right before the sewage plant; the right breaks off the jetty...
